AGA Webinar Focuses on Promoting Responsible Gaming

In a webinar hosted by the American Gaming Association (AGA), panelists from some of the most well-known gambling operators in the US talked about resources, tools, and the importance of responsible gaming. The consensus among the panelists was that advertising responsible gaming and supporting evidence-based problems and responsible gaming research is essential for the industry’s future success.

Operators have a responsibility to promote responsible gaming, and they are working together to create industry-wide standards. This includes developing educational resources, supporting research, and creating self-regulatory frameworks. By working together, operators can help ensure that gaming is a positive experience for everyone involved.

One thing was clear: responsible gaming is important to these operators, and they are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for their players.

Responsible Gaming Education Month Webinar

The panel of industry experts gather in the Responsible Gaming Education Month webinar spoke at length about the advancements in technology that have made online gambling more accessible than ever before and the experts agreed that this is only set to continue. They also spoke about the need for collaboration between major competing operators to promote responsible gaming among players. Panelist included:

Jaime Costello – National Council on Problem Gambling Director of Programs,

Charmaine Hogan – Playtech Head of Regulatory Affairs

Christine H. Thurmond – DraftKings Senior Director for Responsible Gaming

Playtech Protect Division

Hogan discussed how Playtech detects gambling problems through Playtech Protect Division using AI-driven analytics and research.

“It measures problem gaming on the markers of harm,” Hogan said.

“The beauty of it is that it’s not just a scoreboard of how much time or money you’ve spent online. It’s looking at the payment systems and methods. It looks at your deposits, wagers, and your fluctuations in those. Are you increasing? How often are you increasing? Are you chasing losses? Are you playing later at night? Those are examples of key markers.”

Moreover, Thurmond talked about the Drafteducation hubs where players can learn a lot more about gambling even before cashing in their funds. In addition to guides that are textually presented on the site, it also provided tutorials and videos about casino games and other features.

In addition, Thurmond stated that a well-trained workforce will eventually lead to “the most informed player base.”

“When people know it and they have responsible gaming in their head when they’re at their jobs, it becomes part of what they do,” he added.

Operators Working together

As the online gaming industry has continued to grow, responsible gaming has become an increasingly important issue for operators. With more and more people playing online casino games, operators must take steps to ensure that their players are doing so responsibly. This means taking measures to prevent underage gaming and ensuring that players are not spending more than they can afford to lose.

Recently, the six market-leading operators have come together to release a set of responsible gambling principles that they hope will serve as a benchmark for other operators to follow. The leaders who have signed on to these principles include some of the biggest names in online betting, and they hope that this show of unity will help to finally destigmatize the industry.

Bally’s, BetMGM, DraftKings, MGM Resorts International, Fanduel, and Entain formulated the 12 principles for responsible gaming. These principles put customers’ well-being above all else, and they reaffirm the commitment of industry stakeholders to provide a safe and secure gambling experience. This is a big step forward for the online gambling industry, and it will hopefully lead to greater regulation and oversight in the future.

In addition, responsible gaming initiatives also include providing information and support for those who may be at risk of developing a gambling problem. By taking these steps, operators can create a positive playing experience for their customers and help to prevent gambling-related harm. As a result, responsible gaming is now an essential part of the online gaming industry.
